Johnny & The Old Oak Tree
Published in Paperback by Crestmont Publishing (08 November, 1995)
Authors: Delton Gerdes and Rachael Peterpaul Paulson
Average review score:

Excellent Ideas
The "Hands on the World Environmental Series" provide excellent ideas for young people. The books are easy to read and the watercolors make beautiful additions to the text. These recycling adventures are a great part of closing the loop.

It's a GREAT children's learning book
Reading this book was a great learning experience. I read a story about Johnny and his "recycling" adventure and in turn learned about recycling through the eyes of a child. Even as an adult there was an enormous amount of information, written in an easy to digest form. I highly recommend this book. We can all benefit from the knowledge this book gives.

Jonah: Meeting the God of the Second Chance
Published in Hardcover by Loizeaux Brothers (July, 1990)
Author: O. S. Hawkins
Average review score:

Meet the God of the second chance
This is simply the finest commentary on the life of Jonah the Prophet I have ever read. It is a great tool for teachers, preachers, or those participating in family devotionals. The insights are very deep but made easy to understand due to Dr. Hawkine keen insight, knowledge and wisdom of the Holy Scriptures. This is one book you will want to read over and aver again and will never grow old due to it's timeless truths.

Profound insight into Jonah's life and the Christian's.
This was the easiest book to understand and it "wowed" us. I used it as a devotional for our family. Our 12 year old son loved it! I want more like this!!!

WONDERFUL!
This book was fantastically written. I just finished reading it in two nights (couldn't put it down) and am ready to pick it up and read it again!

Excellent book!
This book was extremely well written. You actually feel as if you are in Egypt with Joseph. A great deal of reseach must have been done for this novel, the details and the historical elements were fantastic. This is a great read for everybody, even non-religious readers. Be sure you reserve time to read this, because you won't be able to put it down!

Joseph the Dreamer
All of Shoshana Lepon's books are worthy of having in your Child's library. She is very good at telling Torah events in a way that reflects the Torah perspective while holding the interest and fascination of the reader. Our children love her books.

An Excelent Book!
This book, like all of Lepon's other books is absolutely wonderful! I highly recommend it.

Joseph...a Man of Integrity & Forgiveness
Published in Paperback by Unknown (September, 1998)
Author: Charles R. Swindoll
Average review score:

a wonderful emotional depiction of an honorable man
In his book, Swindoll shows in a concise, vivid and entertaining manner the things that Joseph had to undergo and adequately explains that the only way he survived them and came out on top was due to his extreme devotion to and faith in God. He uses the method of displaying a passage of scripture and then analyzing it piece by piece. What would you have done in Joseph's position? How did Joseph do what he did? This book is extremely superb, whether you want to take an in depth look at your favorite patriarch, or if you are struggling with integrity and forgiveness in your own life.

A masterful blue-print for modeling personal integrity!
Chuck Swindoll has done it again! If you read only one book this year, you owe it to yourself to read "Joseph: A Man of Integrity and Forgiveness."

After reading a number of Swindoll's books, booklets, and articles, I firmly believe "Joseph" to be his finest work concerning personal integrity! It challenged me to reach for new levels of personal, Christ-like character.

Be prepared to laugh, shed a some tears, and have your life challenged by the book's insightful observations, masterful commentary and penetrating questions for application. It delivers the goods in a life changing way!

Journal of a Mountain Man
Published in Paperback by Scurlock Pub Co (01 August, 1998)
Authors: James Clyman and Linda Hasselstrom
Average review score:

Excellent first hand narrative...
We should be grateful that there were such men as Clyman to write down history as they saw it in the early to mid 1800's. Not many mountain men/frontiersmen were literate, and if this wasn't written down back then, it would have just been heresay. Clyman came out with Jedediah Smith in the 1820's as a fur trapper. He records what went on at that time. These couple of chapters are a fascinating read. Then in the early 1840's, he came out with the Oregon Trail emigrants. He was a very observant individual, describing not only the climate, but also geology, flora, fauna, agriculture, etc. along the way. There was a section in the book where he talks about "time and space" which really surprised me about how deep a thinker the man was...he was very intelligent, also writting poetry and prose. If you want to know what it was like then, read this book...it's a good one!

The Real Thing
This is one of my favorite books. I just bought one for my cousin and decided to submit a review. If you're looking for a literary masterpiece, go buy Finnegan's Wake. This book is written by a pretty illiterate guy who spent his life exploring the West, back when it was all indians and a few couple white men. The author hiked naked over a thousand miles after he ripped a hole in the back of the Indian tent where he was being held captive, attacked, killed and ate a badger with his bare hands, and was generally the toughest, meanest SOB I've ever encountered. If you're intrigued by the old West, but you're sick of reading and viewing the lightweight fluff, get this book. Its the Real Thing.

Journey to Nyorfias, Book One
Published in Hardcover by Zapstone Productions (April, 2002)
Authors: Terran Moffat, Sharon M. Ziebe, and Sara V. Olds
Average review score:

A truly fun read!
You'll laugh out loud, you'll cry, you'll bite your nails!!

Not only does Terran Moffat easily draws you right into her richly detailed and somewhat alien world of the planet Nyorfias, she also writes her characters with such vivid intensity you can't help but get caught up in this truly enjoyable book.

Sgt. Rett Teno and her squadron of hot-shot special forces commandos are the key players in a war against an evil alien coalition bent on enslaving and exploiting their beautiful planet. Fighting against nearly impossible odds with relatively inferior weapons, Rett's team uses every advantage it has to defeat their enemies. By far, the strongest of these is the Nyorfian people's fierce love for their planet. If you're like me, you'll love the closeness, comradery, and undying sense of humor this team shows in the face of terror and near-certain death!

Pam, Rett's "ego-merge" companion from planet Earth, is along for the ride (most of the time) from right inside Rett's head, giving us not only a dual perspective but also plently of comic relief. Somehow, a benevolent alien "entity" has pulled off this trick as he fights the war on an entirely different plane of existance.

A new mainstay in the world of sci-fi!
Book one of Journey to Nyorfias is the most enjoyable fantasy science-fiction book I've read since this genre was at it's peak 15-20 years ago. I've waited for a story like this for a LONG TIME! Not only does it have all the elements necessary to make a truly great fantasy/sci-fi classic, but has almost non-stop action and adventure that keeps you turning the pages and makes you greedy for more. I was NOT able to put this one down, and am really looking forward to the next installment. Highly recommended to all fans of fantasy and science fiction!

Just Eight Months Old
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (November, 1900)
Author: Tori Carrington
Average review score:

Very highly recommended by WordWeaving.com
Even when Hannah McGee was a NYC police officer, she'd never liked carrying a revolver. As a bounty hunter, Hannah only carries a stun gun she calls The Equalizer and a small canister of pepper spray tucked inside her waistband. Now she plans to trade her bounty hunter title for that of a private investigator; that is, until her boss persuades her to take one more case as a personal favor to him. Unfortunately, that last job requires working with Chad Hogan, the man who walked out of her life fifteen months ago without a second glance. The man she loved and wanted to marry. The man who, unknowingly, is the father of her eight month old child, Bonnie.

Tori Carrington is actually the psedudonym of husand-and-wife writing team Lori and Tony Karayianni, writers of extraordinary talent that blend sophisticated prose and fast paced action. They have an unusual ability of capturing the reader's heart and imagination with their depth of plot line and vivid characterization. Indeed, In JUST EIGHT MONTHS OLD, Tori Carrington's creative energy and engaging story line most heartily satisfy the romance reader's desire for a fullfilling reading experience. Very highly recommended.

wonderfully wicked romance
Fifteen months ago, bounty hunter Chad Hogan fled New York for the safe confines of Florida because his girl friend Hannah McGee wanted commitment and marriage. He gave her an Alfa Romeo instead of a ring. Now their boss Elliot Blackstone wants them to work together on a case that could save his bail bond business. Not only does Hannah reject working with the man she loves, but worries about his reaction when he learns that he is the father of an eight-month-old child. However, loyalty and good money forces Hannah to agree to one last case as a bounty hunter before she quits and becomes a private sleuth.

However, as they work in close proximity, both internalizes that they fear letting the other inside their soul again. Still, in spite of their efforts to keep the flame out, the passion between them remains strong. However, neither one could anticipate what an eight-month-old girl will do to the barriers protecting Chad's heart.

JUST EIGHT MONTHS OLD is an entertaining contemporary romance centering on commitment and secrets inside a suspense-laden plot. The story line works because the appealing characters, including the imp that owns the hearts of two tough bounty hunters, come across as genuine. The sensational writing team, Tori Carrington, scores high marks with this pleasant and poignant reading experience.

Keeping Hearth and Home in Old Ohio: A Practical Primer for Daily Living
Published in Paperback by Menasha Ridge Press (01 November, 2001)
Author: Carol Padgett
Average review score:

Some Things Never Change...and Then Some Do...Thank Goodness
As a "Baby Boomer" who came of age in the 1970's, I remember a lot of hype about the concept of the "feminine mystique." It sounded like something I needed to understand...I guess I finally did. I don't care how far we women have come in the cause of equality and liberation, most of us still harbor a secret desire to be "soft" but "strong;" "smart" but "vulnerable:" "efficient" but "sexy." After reading Carol's book (and laughing a whole lot at the archaic language) I believe we are no different from our grandmothers and great-grandmothers. Wisdom, humor, and a good bit of common sense are
everywhere in this book.Carol has done extensive research to
bring entertaining as well as pertinent information to those of us who are on an eternal quest to be all things to all of the people in our lives. Although the recipes for making your own cold cream will probably not be high on your list of "must do asap," the advice she relays in her chapter on "Considering Marriage" would be approved by Dr. Laura, Ann Landers, and your personal clergy! I highly recommend this book and the coming series that will include the totally enlightened sage advice of the premier Victorian authorities who give us the most up to date advice for "Coping with the Everyday Life of the 19th Century Homemaker."

Keeping Hearth and Home in Old Ohio
Keeping Hearth and Home in Old Ohio is a well researched and very readable collection of information which would have been of vital importance to a woman living in the late 1800s. It is intriquing to those of us interested women's place in history. The author has included information about all facets of life: habits becoming a lady, advice for a bride, how to raise healthy children, meal preparation, etc. She includes recipes for cooking, grooming, health cures, and other household needs. Many of the hints for better living are as pertinent in 2002 as they were in 1882. Many, provide us with a healthy chuckle as we read.
